TAO OF ALBA

no wonder terrorists exist

They have to bomb the trains first so they could grab a seat in the MRT.

The MRT is one experience I don't want to go through everyday, *shudders* especially during rush hour where everybody is going to work in the morning. I had to take it today. I hate Fridays. I hate the guy who had the "brilliant" idea to legislate the number coding scheme. Because of that asshole, I can't take my car to work and to Ortigas for chorale rehearsals on the day I need beloved Bembol the most. Now he's all alone in Pearl Dr, probably wondering why I left him there. My poor baby.

there are many fish (or fishes) in the sea, but I don't see why we have to take it literally

Seriously. This country should consider a new public transportation system. Before, the MRT was such a big relief, and now, is the public still supposed to be thankful for being stuffed into huge metal canisters like sardines every single day of our metropolitan lives? Of course the freakin' not!

What politicians and bureaucrats need is a harrowing ride on the MRT. Where they are strapped to the trains' butt and left there hanging the entire 10 hours they are supposed to work. Or, stuff them inside one car and have perverts grope them until their self-worth is sucked out of their pathetic existence. Not that I was groped mind you, but standing there this morning so close to people could almost be mistaken for one giant come-on. What was I supposed to hold on to? The floor?

All this frustration makes me want to curse this country's government to kingdom come.

You see, the problem among these government people is that they are so full of themselves that they'd provide the best private car services for their family. Jaguars, Camrys, Benzes, name it, they've got the latest (if only they think the rest of the common people as their kin, we'd be riding in bullet trains by now). Which brings me to the first point, they've got so many cars with police escorts that induce traffic to horrific intensities that they would grow brains to think of a number coding scheme to "lessen" the problem. I see I made a mistake. They are not full of themselves, they are full of shit.

Son los maricones castrados! Tus madres son unas putas feos!

Revelations

Today is a day of explained truths.

How do you differentiate cologne and perfume? My officemate said that cologne is for men, and perfume is for women. Why? Well, he explained that it’s just like “brief is for men and panty is for women”.

I am just shocked by the consequences of having a very vocal and outspoken intern. My boss was scandalized as well, given that he’s also Bisaya. I mean, how do you explain to the southern populace of the Philippines that the Ambassador of the Union of Myanmar is named U TIN HTUN? (The intern just kept announcing his name with outright glee).

All the Visayan members in this office were howling with laughter, apparently because the Ambassador’s name horrifyingly refers to the male reproductive organ in the Visayan vernacular.

My former roommate and I talked last night about the suicide that happened in her building last Monday. (I think it was all over the news). With all the details, we just had one question, what went through her head when she sat on the roofdeck and smoked before jumping?

My hand smells like onions and garlic --- One of the icky things you get when you live on your own and cook your own food. Any ideas on how to make my hand smell like any normal hand again?

I searched google for the meaning of one of our Preveza competition pieces. I hate singing a song that I can't understand. They say that music is the universal language, it is. Emotions are conveyed through the dynamics and nuances without the use of words. But knowing what the words mean is uber-helpful.

Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.

As the deer desires the fountains of water, so longs my soul after thee, O God.

Now wasn't that beautiful?

Incidentally, they sang this at the John Paul II's funeral.

My designation has unofficially changed. I am no longer the Assistant Training Director, because there is no more Training Director to begin with. Why? Long, complicated story. 1 boss down, three more to go. Not that I'd want to get rid of all of them.

Currently, the Executive Director is taking over the training responsibilities. I believe I am now the Executive Assistant, or the Assistant to the Executive Director, or whatever. No worries, really. I am in love with him anyway, so I don't mind working for him. *big smile here* I just love the way he shows up in the office sometimes in full Navy Uniform. (Men in uniform, yum.)

Unfortunately, his glory days being the Executive Director are numbered. *sniff sniff*. I absolutely hate General Efren Abu, AFP Chief of Staff, for recalling him back to officer detail. Life.

Now that I've thought about it. Maybe this is why I don't have a boyfriend. Because of my boss, my standards are soaring through the roof. Besides, there are so many things to accomplish (increasing my market value for instance), and only so little time. Singlehood isn't so bad, I think I'm enjoying it.

So am I saying goodbye to my search-and-destroy-date mode. Then again, when did I ever do that?

On with my love-less funny life.

One of my DLSU interns keep showing up in the office un-announced. I don't know why he keeps hanging around and pretending to work (his internship is OVER and DONE WITH).

Must be because of the free internet.

habemus papam!

Joseph Ratzinger from Germany is now the 265th successor of St. Peter. He will be called Benedict XVI.

The names of Popes usually give the nature of their Papacy. The 15th Benedict tried hard to prevent the 1st World War through his own efforts of reconciling Germany and the rest of Europe. So will the new Pope try to pacify today's civil wars in some Asian and African countries? The War on Terror also comes to mind.

One thing is for sure with this Holy Father, the Church will not sacrifice traditions for what is dictated by pop culture. Reminds me of that line in Mulan, "no matter how strong the wind blows, the mountain cannot bow to it."

More information can be found here and here.

I feel concerned for Sud, a Nepalese friend I met in Mexico. There have been a lot of outbreaks of civil disobedience all over Nepal and I hope he's doing okay over there.

Anyway, does anyone know why Ecuador declared a state of national emergency?

I woke up this morning suddenly wishing to be in my sister's kitchen and baking bread. Mmmm... mouth-watering bread with a miscalculated measure of molasses. I was the butt of jokes from that day forth four years ago. But I had the last laugh since everyone else ate that loaf and couldn't get enough of it.

I'm in day 4 of the South Beach Diet. Bread is just a memory, at least, for the next ten days.

the wonders of culture lah!

When I met up with a Malaysian friend in Kuala Lumpur last December, I basked in the Malaysian-ness of her and everything else. We didn't spend the entire day in KLCC where the twin towers were (that would be like showing Megamall to her if she comes over not that I have anything against the Petronas). Instead we cruised around in her little Toyota that had a broken speedometer which secretly alarmed me and ended up in Little India. We bought kurtis, bangles, and mehndis, things that British India sells for hundreds of dollars only they're more authentic and cheaper.

The culture differences between us were amusing enough. She was telling me about the night life in PJ and I wrinkled my forehead trying to understand her. PJ? As in pajamas? Actually she meant Petaling Jaya, some sort of Eastwood place only more Asian (Eastwood, by the name itself, sounds Western). And then she mentioned BV. What? Oh. Bangsar Village. "Nobody calls Kuala Lumpur by its name, it's known simply as KL, lah."

That's funny, I told her. When we use acronyms, we usually refer to a person, like GMA for the President, FPJ for that actor who ran against her. Our bosses, too, are called by their acronyms --- JJM, MCB, FCE, and JPE. Ahhhhh.

And what's with this "lah" at the end of every sentence? It's a Malaysian thing that Singapore and Indonesia are gradually catching on. No, lah. Yes, lah. That's very sayang, lah.

*sigh* I miss KL.

John Paul II The Great

Today at the training, I heard that 5 Million people are now waiting to see the Pope. The viewing line is already 12 kilometers long. I wish I could make it 5 Million and 1. I feel sorry for the world with this terrible loss. However, it is true that he has been waiting for his chance for eternal rest. I wish I could have seen him while he was alive... I heard that his mere presence will touch you to your very core, as if it was really Christ who suddenly embraced you and gave you peace. He was the epitome of the ideal modern Pope. He fought for Human Rights and loved the Jews, Muslims, Protestants, Christians, Catholics, Buddhists and everyone else to show that God's love is indeed unconditional for his children.

I've never been so proud as a Catholic until his death, when the world mourned for him day in and day out, when anyone would have a lump in their throats just by watching CNN or BBC, when the world for the first time joined together to pay its last respects to a truly great man. I can't deny how much his death has changed me, and how much I want to pray for world peace especially at this troubled time.

fire drill

(sirens blaring in background)

May I have your attention please? May I have your attention please? The signal you have just heard indicates that there is a fire in this building. Please proceed to the nearest exit and leave the building. Do not re-enter the building until the approval of the proper authorities.

"I love this building."

My Boss: "Marry the building."

Isn't it fitting that they conduct the fire drill on April Fool's Day?

"There are things out there that I want to discover, that one day this will all make sense... I am searching for the meaning of this cosmic existence that we're in. And probably when I find the answer, I'll go and look for the anti-thesis."
5 THINGS

1. I sing in the University Chorale of the University of Asia & the Pacific, and we swept four gold medals in Greece for our very first International Competition. I got to do my two absolute favorite things: singing and traveling.
2. Although I am an Alto Two, my range widens up to Soprano One when I am drunk. Think Charlotte Church's Flower Duet. (I think it has something to do with swallowing the diaper pin when I was a baby). Dancing barefoot in debut parties may also be expected.
3. I work in an non-government organization focused on private sector development. It involves sleepless nights in the office and the constant worry of displeasing a former Secretary of Finance. My other two bosses are harmless.
4. I like my men in uniform. The Military has always been a fascination of mine even before when I was finishing a BA degree in Political Economy.
5. I no longer watch The Bold and the Beautiful much to the joy of friends and family.
