hair issues

My stylist is pleased with me. Finally. I've allowed her a bit of freedom when it comes to cutting my locks. I've gone more layered than usual and I've dumped the highlights altogether and immersed my head in a rich and dark reddish mocha. I just love it.

I'm glad I'm over that haircut trauma. I no longer experience a cold sweat when Olive does my hair now. All because of what happened almost two decades ago when my auntie, who owns the parlor, ordered the stylist then to copy my aunt's haircut.

To an eight-year-old with thick lampaso bangs and shaggy-dog shoulder-length, a short boyish cut is the 9th circle of hell. I covered my head with newspaper when i went home that stormy, cold night. So understandably, I am more nervous with setting an appointment with a stylist than with a dentist.

Even Olive remembers that incident, when she was still a trainee then.

What's the difference between attachment and commitment?

Oh God. I'm in love.

And happy.

So ridiculously in love... and happy (don't forget happy).

+++

I have to explain to the world that I have never seen my guy in uniform. So contrary to anyone who has been reading my blog, the reason why I'm with this guy is NOT because of his... um... work clothes.

I would like to share a dream come true though. I had to cook dinner last Friday because there weren't any restos open during the Holy Week and I could tell we were both getting famished by the way we were slurring the Stations of the Cross. Whilst I was heating the saute pan, he asked if he could change in the bathroom. Okay, I said. I tossed in the garlic cloves and the onions.

Oh. My. God.

I almost burnt everything when he stepped out dressed in fatigue pants and army-green shirt. My forehead was starting to sweat and it wasn't because of the searing hot pan in front of me.

The cherry on top was when he washed the dishes after dinner. I should have taken a photo... my own Army man, in uniform, doing the dishes, in uniform, in my kitchen.

In uniform.

Best Holy Week I've ever had.

please read between the lines

An awkward exchange of SMS messages between a disinterested femme and an unfortunate 2nd Lieutenant.

Army Officer: "It was nice meeting you."
me: "It was nice meeting you too. See you when I see you."
AO: "I'll be looking forward to that day. Next time I'll be in Manila, why don't we meet?"

-long pause here (because how does one reply to this?)

me: "Ok... if I'm not too busy."
AO: "Ok. I know you're really busy. Take care. God bless."
me: "Thanks. You too."

It was tempting considering my weakness for the uniformed men in the Military... but... no thanks.

I've already got one Army Officer in my life and he's coming home to me soon.

Yesterday I got my life back.

manning the fort

They took it quite literally when I joked about it. Yesterday, three staff out of four didn't show up for work. Guess who was the fourth one who did show up?

And I was feeling so shitty in the morning yesterday that I almost sent a message to say I wasn't coming to work until my phone started coughing up messages of people who had the same idea.

Then the boss called to say that he wasn't coming to work too but changed his mind after learning that I was alone in the cold office. He arrived at noon with a runny nose.

It was business as usual, with more super-human effort spent than normal. Such is my life nowadays.

Sigh

"There are things out there that I want to discover, that one day this will all make sense... I am searching for the meaning of this cosmic existence that we're in. And probably when I find the answer, I'll go and look for the anti-thesis."
5 THINGS

1. I sing in the University Chorale of the University of Asia & the Pacific, and we swept four gold medals in Greece for our very first International Competition. I got to do my two absolute favorite things: singing and traveling.
2. Although I am an Alto Two, my range widens up to Soprano One when I am drunk. Think Charlotte Church's Flower Duet. (I think it has something to do with swallowing the diaper pin when I was a baby). Dancing barefoot in debut parties may also be expected.
3. I work in an non-government organization focused on private sector development. It involves sleepless nights in the office and the constant worry of displeasing a former Secretary of Finance. My other two bosses are harmless.
4. I like my men in uniform. The Military has always been a fascination of mine even before when I was finishing a BA degree in Political Economy.
5. I no longer watch The Bold and the Beautiful much to the joy of friends and family.
