Friday, March 31, 20068:30 AM let's talk about work
I got turned down from going to Taiwan this May with the chorale. I begged my boss to reconsider (three times, mind you) because it would be the last... Anyway, I asked him to reconsider and I couldn't get any permission because apparently, nowadays, I earned another job description: taga-bantay ng office a.k.a. fort man-ist or fort man-er.
This is what my boss said:
"May 9-18 is too long. Besides, JPE is going to Rome to see the Pope on that week. And I'm going to Singapore to present our project to OECD."
And just like the Navy-man that he is, he adds:
You have to man the fort.
This isn't the first time I've been manning the freakin' fort. Yesterday, the secretary says, "Sir, you have to accompany Mr. So-and-so to the Lounge for their meeting with JPE..."
His reply?
"Huh? Ah okay. Sige. Andito naman si Tekya." He says this even after noting that the office is in full staff --- full time and part-time. With interns popping out from nowhere!
Like daisies!!!
And now guess what I'm doing? Right. I'm manning the fort again.

Life, as usual, is crazy. Work is taking over my life, and I'm saying that literally because our office is working closely with the Philippine Military Academy, the Navy, and in a few weeks, with the Marines.
It's actually cool, now that I've thought about it. The Marines just pulled a protest stunt a few weeks back, and now we're going to build a Roadmap with them. The best perk of my job is knowing that I've tangibly contributed to the development of my country (and meet men in uniform at the same time).

4 films I can watch over and over: a. Under the Tuscan Sun (I really love the Mediterranean) b. Last Samurai c. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe d. Finding Nemo
Last 4 places I have lived: a. Surigao b. Cebu c. Ortigas d. Makati

4 websites i visit daily: a. blogs b. Friendster c. The Economist d. Gmail
4 of my favorite foods: a. Roti Canai b. Tofu chips c. Tita Cora's pomelo salad d. everything else
4 places I would die: a. on a hospital bed after donating myself to a scientific study in the search for the cure of cancer. b. in a shootout (preferably shot in the heart so it will be painless) that will determine everlasting peace in a very heated diplomatic negotiation between Israel and Palestine. c. what else? d. honestly, i don't want to die just yet.

Friday, March 24, 20065:25 PM beware of the boogey... bunny?
Keeping myself awake for the past few weeks has been a challenge. I've been snoozing everywhere --- a hotel lobby couch, the office pantry, a bar, my desk, the car (when I'm not the one driving of course) --- everywhere except my bed. The reason is simple: there are just too many things to do, work keeps multiplying as if the pile of papers on my desk suddenly became alive and started reproducing asexually.
Unfortunately, a bad externality to this is me neglecting my apartment. I am not even worried about the papers on my desk bouncing around anymore, I am honestly worried about the dust bunnies under the bed, they might transform into monsters and further deprive me from my precious commodity.
Given the visual, I think I finally understood why it was good not to be sleeping on my bed these past few weeks.
I would like to announce the arrival of my sweetest bundle of joy!
5 pounds, 6 ounces. Has a faster and bigger brain than the average baby.
Also came in with a 24-months-to-pay loan.
So this is what you call unconditional love...

From our conference the other day... hehehe. I swear, I'm so mean. But I can't help it. Some of you may know that guy on the right. *wink wink*

"There are things out there that I want to discover, that one day this will all make sense... I am searching for the meaning of this cosmic existence that we're in. And
probably when I find the answer, I'll go and look for the anti-thesis."
5 THINGS
1. I sing in the University Chorale of the University of Asia & the Pacific, and we swept four gold medals in Greece for our very first International Competition. I got to do my two absolute favorite things: singing and traveling.
2. Although I am an Alto Two, my range widens up to Soprano One when I am drunk. Think Charlotte Church's Flower Duet. (I think it has something to do with swallowing the diaper pin when I was a baby). Dancing barefoot in debut parties may also be expected.
3. I work in an non-government organization focused on private sector development. It involves sleepless nights in the office and the constant worry of displeasing a former Secretary of Finance. My other two bosses are harmless.
4. I like my men in uniform. The Military has always been a fascination of mine even before when I was finishing a BA degree in Political Economy.
5. I no longer watch The Bold and the Beautiful much to the joy of friends and family.
